local PARENTING COURSES

the parenting puzzle

'The Parenting Puzzle is a 10 week programme that encourages parents and carers to enjoy bringing up children and get the best out of family life. It offers positive, practical ways of guiding children so they learn to handle both their feelings and their behaviour. The course is relaxed, fun and a great confidence booster'.

Courses are run in partnership with the Sure Start Centre and local Home School Link Workers.  Please see the Family Links website for details of all the courses currently available in Surrey.

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES PROGRAMME

'Come along to this free, informal group to meet with other parents and discuss new strategies and guidance for teenagers. The programme consists of 7 sessions.
Parents and young people meet separately for an hour, then join together for an hour of family activities and games. Snacks and a raffle will be provided each week.'

Sure Start Children’s Centres provide a variety of services for children 0-5 years and their families.  There are already almost 3000 children’s centres and by 2010 there will be one in every community taking the total to 3500.  The aim of Sure Start Children’s Centre’s is to give every child an equal start in life.  It is a place that the whole community can access and use the services on offer. 

The Christopher Robin Sure Start Children's Centre serves Cranleigh and the surrounding villages including Ewhurst, Alfold, Ellens Green, Dunsfold, Shamley Green, Wonersh and Bramley.  The children’s centre is next to Glebelands School, just off the High Street in Cranleigh. 

The committed team at the children’s centre can offer  a variety of services including:

  • Play and Learn Sessions for parents and children to enjoy fun activities together.  Singing Groups and Child Yoga also available.
  • Buggy Babes Postnatal Group for Mum’s to enjoy a bit of light exercise with other new Mum’s and get friendly advice
  • Young Parent Sessions available for the under 25’s to come along with their little ones and enjoy themselves as well as the children having a good time
  • Information, Advice and Guidance Sessions are available for support with any area of family life – money matters, adult education, healthy living, family life, child care options, returning to work
  • Parenting Puzzle is a relaxed 10 week course which offers practical ways of guiding children so they learn how to handle their feelings and behaviour.
  • Daddy and Me is a Saturday session for any male carer to come along with children to enjoy quality time together
  • The Sure Start Bus goes out to all rural areas within our community offering a variety of services including Car seat fitting, Stop smoking advice, oral health guidance and regular visits from the local Police Officer to tell him your views on what our community needs.

All of our services are free or heavily subsidised

We work together with the Cranfold Confederation to provide support within our community for children from birth to 19 years and their families.  Together we can ensure that all children have the support to achieve their full potential, because every child matters.
